Abstract
Bone biopsies were studied in 10 long-term hemodialysis patients to determine if a serum comcentration of intact-PTH is a better predictor of ostitis fibrosa than that of carboxyterminal PTH fragment.
A serum concentration of intact-PTH correlated positively with fibrous tissue specific volume and serum alkaline phosphatase level. Moreover, intact-PTH reflected more clearly subperiosteal resorption in radiological findings than c-PTH. These data suggest that a serum concentration of intact-PTH may be a better predictor of ostitis fibrosa than that of c-PTH.
