Abstract
Eleven cases of neglected rupture of the Achilles tendon were observed in the last 10 years. All cases were treated by operative repair, and a follow-up study has been made in 10 of these cases. Five patients, who were treated within two weeks from the primary injury, were operated on by end-to-end suture. The remaining 5 cases, who were treated after more than 6 weeks from the time of the primary injury, were operated on using various plastic repairs. We examined and compared these two groups.
There was little differerence in the range of motion of the ankle joint, Gastrocnemius muscle power, and ankle symptoms.
Three patients in the second group complaind of anxiety in running or jumping, but no patients complained of inconvenience in their daily life.
Results of operative repair for neglected rupture of the Achilles tendon was as good as that of other published series.
