We treated 50 cases of intertrochanteric femoral fractures with the Compression Hip screw (C. H. S.). Four of these cases failed. We report on three of these cases and discuss the cause of operative failure.
In all cases, the buttress on the medial cortex side was not reduced and lag screws were not inserted in the center position of the femoral head.
It is, therefore, concluded that the most important factor for successful treatment with C. H. S. is good placement of the lag screw in the femoral head under good reduction, to acquire stable internal fixation.
