Abstract
The margins of intramuscular hemangiomas are usually obscure making extensive resection, including normal muscle necessary. Such resections can at times result in impairment of function.
To reduce the post-operative functional impairment, we performed preoperative embolization to intramuscular hemangioma by percutaneous tumor puncture with n-butyl cyanoacrylate (Histoacryl®) for clarifing the tumor margins. Consolidated tumor margins were easily identified at the time of surgery. After five months follow-up, there was no signs of recurrence and the patient has no impairment of function. Preoperative percutaneous embolization with n-butyl cyanoacrylate was useful to clearly delineate the range of tumor resection needed.
