Abstract
We report the clinical results of surgical intervention for eosinophilic granuloma arising from extraspinal bones. All 8 cases were diagnosed by open biopsy. The average age of the patient at first the presentation is 19.8 years old, and postoperative follow-up period is about 69 months. The site of the lesion was femur in 4 patients, rib in 2 and tibia and humerus in 1 each. All the patients were treated surgically. Specifically, curettage and bone graft were administered in 5 patients, total resection in 2, and bipolar hip arthroplasty in 1. Functional results after each operation were good and 5 osteolytic lesions treated with curettage and bone graft gradually healed within 4.6 months. The clinical results of surgical intervention for solitary eosinophilic granuloma of bone was reported to be quite good, but appropriate indications such as the following should be observed; patient with pathological fracture, severe deformity, and para-articular location.
