Abstract
The trend of class identification in post-war Japan has been a riddle for many scholars. There were two major defects in previous studies. First, the sociological problems that have to be answered were not sufficiently articulated. Secondly, the structure of respondent's unconscious judgement in answering the questionnaire of class identification survey was not clarified. This paper attempts, reviewing critically previous studies, to present a more successful explanation for the trend of class identification.
