Abstract
In this paper, based on newly discovered historical materials, I report on the “commercial field research” that YABU Meizan himself wrote in his resume that he was engaged in between 1868 and 1880, and based on the results of that research, and I consider the reasons why Meizan decided to establish a Satsuma ware overglaze painting studio.
