Abstract
Study and description of Japanese accent is conducted these days mostly on analogy of stress accent. Yet, the base of Japanese accent is tone rather than culminative accent, the latter being superimposed on the former. Thus, even the Tokyo Standard Japanese can be considered to have a tonal opposition flat versus falling.
