Abstract
We report a new hemostat sponge framed with Ti-Ni shape memory alloy wire. The Ti-Ni alloy wire frame was pretreated by a shape memory process, the original shape of the wire could be easily resumed by treatment with electric current using a mangan dry cells. Since not heating was effective, autoclave did not cause not difficulities.
The hemostat sponge was used for cases of epistaxis and post-operative bleeding. The sponge can be rolled up, folded or crampled into a small ball. When used for a case with bleeding from Kieselbach's area, it expanded widely in the nasal cavity due to the shape memory process by a treatment with electric current and the patient could breathe through the lumen with the pack in place.
