Abstract
Anatomists have recently been pressed to revolutionize their education system including dissection laboratory class, corresponding to the remarkable progress of clinical medicine. In fact, clinical doctors from the department of otology undertake the task of teaching students, in the process of temporal bone dissection to understand the precise structures of the middle and inner ears. A trial to promote otological research mind is also launched for medical students, by giving them a chance to observe the hair cells in inner ear under electron microscope.
In 2012, the guidelines for cadaver dissection in medical education and research of clinical medicine have been issued by Japan Surgical Society and Japanese Association of Anatomists. Accordingly, it seems necessary to draw up a guideline for “temporal bone dissection” in education and research of clinical medicine by Japan Otological Society and related academic societies.
