Responses of cochlear nucleus neurons of the cat to complex tones (2)

Abstract

Responses of cochlear nucleus neurons to complex tones, which were composed of two pure tones, were recorded with microelectrode technique in anesthetized cat. We found some neurons that exhibit facilitation on stimulated by complex tones. There was a neuron whose onset response to tone burst (f₁) was facilitated by adding tone burst (f₃) in the neuron's inhibitory region. There was a neuron whose inhibitoryresponse to tone burst (f₁) was facilitated by adding tone burst (f₃) in the neuron's inhibitory region. We conclude that these facilitation may be related to the processing mechanism for complex tones.
