Abstract
The tympanic isthmus and mucosal fold were studied using serial transversal and perpendicular sections of human temporal bones. Dissections of the human temporal bones were alsoobserved from above, below and front. In addition, the tympanic mucosal fold and auditory ossicles were stereoscopically reconstructed using the perpendicular serial sections in order to re-evaluate the anatomical characteristics.
