Primary malignant lymphoma of middle ear

Abstract

Malignant lymphoma in the middle ear is extremely rare, and only six cases have been reportedin the literature. The purpose of this report is to describe a case of primary malignant lymphoma ofthe middle ear. The histological findings were consistent with malignant lymphoma of plemorphictype. The immunologic function studies showed EMA (-), LCA (+), UCHL -1 (+), L26 (-), and itwas classified as T cell type lymphoma. CT and MRI of the skull showed a mass in the left mastoidcavity with extension to the posterior cranial fossa and destruction of the wall of the externalauditory canal. The ⁶⁷Ga scintigraphy suggested a malignant process of the left middle ear. This isthe first reported case of T cell type malignant lymphoma of the middle ear.
