High−temperature bulk superconductors prepared by melt processing are capable of trapping a large number of quantized flux lines because of their strong pinning effect. The magnetic flux density trapped by these materials has already exceeded 10 T, which is comparable to the magnetic flux density produced by ordinary superconducting magnets. Once the magnetic flux has been trapped, the sample can be regarded as a quasi−permanent magnet with a magnetic field ten times larger than that of conventional permanent magnets. We will discuss the pinning effect, the melt processing of bulk superconductors, and the pulsed−field magnetization of these materials in this article.
