This paper reports on the present status of fiber devices, which are classified into passive, active and nonlinear types. Passive devices include fiber couplers, polarization devices, filters, and gratings. As active devices, rare-earth-doped fiber amplifiers and lasers are reviewed. Also, recent studies on nonlinear devices are reviewed, including fiber Raman amplifiers, switches, wavelength converters, parametric amplifiers, and supercontinuum sources. Finally, the future prospects of fiber devices are discussed.
