Rewritable phase-change optical memory technologies (rewritable DVD, Blu-ray, etc.)

Abstract

The recording capacity of a phase-change optical disk is increased from 650MB of CD-RW through 4.7GB of rewritable DVD to 23GB of Blu-ray.The main application is expanded from document-data and audio-signal recording to video-signal recording replacing tape media.Here, the present and future phase-change optical memory technologies are discussed taking recording media and optical head as main subjects.
