In recent years, integrated chemical systems, named micro-total analysis systems (μ-TAS) or labs-on-a-chip, have become of major interest, particularly to chemists, due to their desirable characteristics, such as reduced reagent consumption, smaller required space, and shorter analysis time. They are also interesting from the point of basic science. In this review, micro chemical chip studies in biochemical and biological fields are described.
