Abstract

The senses of taste and smell are called chemical senses, which perceive several kinds of chemical substance. The senses of sight and hearing perceive physical properties such as light and sound waves, respectively ; thus, they are called physical senses. Sensors for perceiving physical properties have been developed using materials such as semiconductors. This article describes the research and development of sensors for chemical senses, which have not been developed thus far.
