The tendency of young people to avoid learning science hinders the development of future science technologies in Japan and is a serious problem. I explain the progress made in the last 10 years and the present state of the problems concerning the project “Refresh of Science Education in the Classroom” which is one of the education-related activities of the Japan Society of Applied Physics. I discuss the mission of the science promoting activities of the Japan Society of Applied Physics with the aim to increase the population of young people taking courses of engineering and science in their future.
