Abstract

High-quality ceramic laser materials equal to or better than crystalline solid-state lasers have been developed by a modern ceramic fabrication technique. A new scalable fabrication process from nanocrystalline powder to large fully transparent ceramics allows higher power and efficiency. Systematic studies of the physical measurement of spectroscopic, optical, thermal, and mechanical properties have been carried out for the physical confirmation of high performance. Scalable ceramic lasers open the door to new industrial applications with high-efficiency femtosecond lasers and future applications such as IFE (Inertial confinement Fusion Energy) drivers.
