Abstract

We review the recent experimental and theoretical progress in optically controlled semiconductor spin qubits and the generation of indistinguishable single-photons in monolithic microcavities with single quantum dots. The application of such physical systems to scalable quantum information systems such as those for topological cluster state quantum computation and nested purification-based quantum repeaters is also discussed.
