What is coherence ?

Abstract

The word ‘coherence’ is widely used in a variety of fields in physics. However, it may be somewhat difficult for beginners or younger scientists to fully understand this concept. In the present article, the basic concept of coherence is reviewed, together with explanations concerning the complex degree of coherence, temporal coherence, coherence time, coherence length, spatial coherence, and the coherence of quantum states.
