Graphene has attracted considerable attention due to its potential to create high performance active functional devices, in particular, laser devices operating in the terahertz range at room temperature which is extremely challenging for conventional quantum cascade lasers. In this article, recent progress and future trends, toward the creation of graphene terahertz lasers, using graphene photonics and the resultant stimulated emission of terahertz radiation, are reviewed.
