Abstract

The Great East Japan Earthquake Disaster influenced all of Japan in many different ways. It was also an unfortunate incident that extinguished the trust by the public in scientists and engineers. In this report, I explain the current Japanese situation, which is just at an inflection point and comment on the reflections from the disaster in the Science and Technology Basic Plan, and I express the expectations I have for the Japan Society of Applied Physics for the possibility of change after the disaster.
