Because a worldwide energy shortage has become one of the serious problems of this century, a lot of effort has been conducted for replacing fossil fuels with other green energy sources, such as solar, wind, and hydroelectric power. New and improved batteries for energy storage are urgently required to make more efficient use of our finite supply of fossil fuels, and to enable the effective use of renewable energy sources. In the next 10-15 years, it is thought that lithium ion batteries are a key resource for mobile energy, and one of the most promising solutions for environmentally friendly transportation such as plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHV) or electric vehicles (EV). The next generation of energy storage (batteries) could successfully reach the energy market. It is difficult to say how the performance gap between the conventional engine and batteries will be filled by these new batteries, such as metal-air batteries.
