Abstract

Non-demolition measurement, which is an emerging technology for the interior visualization of non-transparent samples, is important in the fields of medicine, industry, and fundamental research. Using the optical properties and an optical interferometer, a non-contact, non-demolition, and highly sensitive measurement with um resolution can be demonstrated. In this issue, one of the recent hot topics in the medical field, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), which enables the visualization of non-transparent samples with um resolution, is reviewed. OCT has already been used by ophthalmologists for the inspection of the retina as an indispensable method. In this issue, the principles, applications, and recent research trends are clearly explained.
