Depending on the temperature and density of the electrons, ions and neutral particles present in the plasma, a wide variety of plasma processing applications, ranging from low to high temperature processing, have been developed.
In the case of bio-medical applications, in order to target living cells and resin materials, it is often necessary to use low temperature non-equilibrium plasmas. In contrast, in the case of environmental applications, like waste treatment, thermal equilibrium plasmas are indispensable. Recent reports about the use of non-equilibrium low temperature plasmas for environmental applications have also been presented.
In this report, recent research trends on the applications of a wide variety of plasmas for the environmental and biotechnology fields are presented.
