Thermal conductivity expresses the diffusion of thermal energy, and thermal diffusivity is a diffusion of temperature. Therefore, heat capacity is important because it relates thermal energy to temperature.
The basic understanding of the measurement of thermal diffusivity and heat capacity is reviewed based on linear response theory and a consideration of the relationship between the thermal diffusion length/thermal diffusion time and the frequency/pulse input of the modulation technique/pulse method.
