Abstract

Methematical techniques for resolution enhancement using a computer are reviewed. In linear systems, resolution enhancement is reduced to the problem of solving the convolution integral. This technique to solve the integel equation, referred to as “deconvolution”, has long been studied in the spectral data analysis. However, due to the difficulty in computation, very primitive methods were actually used. Recent developments in computer technology made it prossible to apply complicated mathematical methods, such as the Fourier transform technique, to the processing of deconvolution. Details of these methods with their physical meanings, are explained and some results of the resolution enhancement by these processings are demonstrated.
