World Grid Square Statistics Reference Architecture and its Potential Applications

Abstract

This article addresses existing studies related to geographical and statistical data and their applications and discusses the World Grid Square Reference architecture and its potential industrial applications. The World Grid Square coding system is a compatible extension of the Grid Square Coding System (JIS X0410), one of the Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS). The World Grid Square codes enable us to produce grid square statistics on a global scale from data, including geographical positions. Data, including geographical information, are accumulated in companies and organizations recently. However, it is hard to utilize them as secondary usage due to personally identifiable data protection regulations. Grid square statistics Reference Architecture may solve this challenge.
