Reconsideration of Modern Rationalism and Technological Versatile Principle after FUKUSHIMA

Focusing on Change in Science Communication in Japan

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is twofold: Firstly, to point out that neither before nor after the Fukushima nuclear accident in March, 2011, has there been much discussion in science cafes about the peaceful use of nuclear power in Japan; especially, the merits and demerits of nuclear power plants focusing on Science and Technology in Society. Secondly, and given the above, using data from my practice, I would like to introduce an effective strategy to foster much needed discussion on the merits and demerits of nuclear energy in the context of STS.
