Some Nodes on Social Studies

－ Suggestions inspired by "Geography and History " in the first year of National Institute of Technology, Oyama College －

Abstract

This paper aims to discuss two suggestions based on experiences through teaching a class named "Geography and History" in 2019. One is the theories of two inventions, "the Islamic world" and "tradition". The other is two cases of environmental determination by a 14th century Muslim historian and a 20th century Japanese philosopher. Though the first-year students in our college need basic knowledge of social studies primarily, these theories make us perceive relations between geography and history.
