Abstract
The possibility of sonochemical formation of hydrogen was examined in benzophenone dissolved 2-propanol solution with colloidal platinum involved, in which hydrogen is formed photochemically through the catalytic action of colloidal platinum as Henglein reported. It was found that hydrogen was formed by ultrasound sonication of the solution both with and without involving colloidal platinum when water was added to the solution. The hydrogen yields were higher in the presence of colloidal platinum than in the absence of that. The effect of adding water as a proton source on the photochemical formation of hydrogen was also examined in the colloidal platinum involving benzophenone-2-propanol solution. The hydrogen formation increased slightly with increasing water contents but falled down at the concentration of water up to 70mol %. Synergetic effect of simultaneous irradiation of ultrasound sonication and photo-irradiation on the yield of hydrogen was not observed.
