Abstract

We obrained a ferrocenium ion doped blue SiO₂ gel from a ferrocene doped yellow SiO₂ sol using the sol-gel method. The intensity of the 435-nm absorption peak of the gel decreases, while that of the 615-nm peak increases. It is concluded that a ferrocene molecule has been oxidized to a ferrocenium ion in the SiO₂ gel.
