Michanical Properties and Microstructure of Hot-Pressed SiC containing Mexed Rare-Earth Oxides and SiO₂

Abstract

Silicon carbide (SiC) ceramics were sintered by hot-pressing at 1850∼2050°C for 1h under a pressure of 40 MPa in Ar flow with the addition of total 11mass% mexed rare-earths oxides and SiO₂. Dispersion of strength of the sample was remarkable. SEM micrograghs revealed the difference in microstructure between inside and outside of sintered.
