Preparation and properties of glass ceramics from Kira-CaCO₃

Abstract

Kira is a wasted material through elutriation process of raw materials of glass and clay. Since it contains quartz and clay, it is expected to be an appropriate raw material in the preparation of glass ceramics. Glasses were prepared by melting powders mixing CaCO₃ to Kira. They were heated at various temperatures for various times to examine crystallization behavior. Wollastonite, pseudowollastonite, anorthite was crystallized in the glass ceramics.
