Abstract
Layered manganese oxide H-birnessite was exfoliated into a nano-sheet sol solution by reaction with (CH3)4NOH solution. A Ni(NO3)2 solution was added into the nano-sheet sol solution, then the nano-sheet restack with accommodation of Ni(OH)2 into the interlayer space, causing formation of a MnO2-Ni(OH)2 co-precipitate. After hydrothermal treatment of the co-precipitate, a MnO2-Ni(OH)2 sandwich layered compound was obtained. A hexagonal layered Li-Ni-Mn-O phase was prepared by hydrothermal treatment of the sandwich compound in a LiOH solution, and its electrochemical properties was investigated.
