Abstract
The reactivity of dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma is expected to increase by increasing dielectric constant of the dielectric shield to generate plasma. However, the use of high dielectric constant ceramic as the dielectric shield was difficult since high dielectric constant ceramics tend to break by supplying high voltage. Therefore, the improvement of dielectric strength of dielectric ceramics is highly desired. The specimens, using CaTiO3, SrTiO3 and Li2Si2O5, were prepared by two routes, i.e. the specimens were sintered at 1443 K for 5 min. and 1473 K for 2 h by spark plasma sintering (SPS) and conventional sintering, respectively. The relative density and 3-point bending strength of Ca1-xSrxTiO3 were greatly increased by adding sintering additive of Li2Si2O5 by conventional route and were improved further more by SPS technique. The dielectric constant and dielectric strength were also improved significantly. The specimens obtained could successfully generate plasma by DBD.
