Abstract
To obtaine a polycarbolilane at a lower temperature and pressure, we have developed a catalytic process using solid acd catalysts such as ZSM-5, Zeolite Y and Zeolite A. Characterization of synthesized polycarbosilane was performed with 29Si Solid NMR, FT-IR, TG, and GPC analysis. The yields of polycarbosilnae are ranged from 30 - 60 % depending on the catalysts. A continuous polycarbosilane fiber was fabricated by melt spinning these precursors under an inert atmosphere. Thermally cured polycarbosilane fiber was pyrolyzed at 1200oC-1500oC. The obtained SiC fiber was characterized by TEM, XRD, and measurement of tensile strength and Young′s modulus.
