Abstract
In the present study, the effect of a high magnetic field, ″magnetic vector effects″, on microstructure of ceramics was mainly investigated. The compactions of hydroxyapatite and its related bioceramics were in-situ sintered at 1273 to 1573K in air atmosphere for 2 hour under a high magnetic field of 10 tesla. The microstructures of hydroxyapatite and its related ceramics sintered bodies were evaluated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observation. It was found that hydroxyapatite and hydroxyapatite with an additive in-situ sintered with a high magnetic field in an air atmosphere possessed significantly higher relative density than ones sintered under 0 T. These results might show the enhancement of sinterabilty on in-situ sintering due to the magnetic vector effects.
