Abstract
Titania as a photocatalyst has been used for environmental purification. However, the adsorption effect of titania is not adequate in general. In this study, microstructure designed titania/hydroxyapatite porous composites were prepared by hydrothermal method at 200 oC under the saturated vapor pressure for 10 h. Titania particles of about 100 nm in size were dispersed into hydroxyapatite porous matrix. The hydroxyapatite particles were rod-shaped crystals, and the size of crystals were about 10 μm with the aspect ratio over 30. These crystals were elongated along the c-axis according to TEM analysis. Rod-shaped HA crystals were locked together to make micro-pores of about 100 nm in size. It was non-stoichiometric HA with calcium deficient composition according to ICP-MS analysis. This composite must have the advantage of adsorptive activity, because the HA has many specific crystal surface and micro-pores.
