Abstract
In order to synthesize perovskite-type type (La1-xSrx)CoO3, a gel was prepared by adding citric acid and ethylene glycol to an aqueous solution of lanthanum nitrate, strontium nitrate, and cobalt nitrate. Then, the gel was fired at 400-800°C for 3 hours in air. Perovskite-type (La1-xSrx)CoO3 was obtained above 500°C for x = 0, and above 600°C in the range 0.05 ≤ x ≤ 0.15. The oxygen content, the crystallite size, the specific surface area, and the catalytic activity for CO oxidation of (La1-xSrx)CoO3 were measured. The oxygen content of (La1-xSrx)CoO3 is 2.95-2.99. The crystallite size of (La1-xSrx)CoO3 fired at a certain temperature slightly decreases with increasing x. The specific surface area of LaCoO3 fired at 600oC is ca. 19 m2/g and decreases to ca. 10 m2/g at 800oC. The catalytic activity for CO oxidation increases with increasing x.
