Abstract
We examined the platelet adhesion of Ti substrates oxidized with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), heating or both H2O2 and subsequently heating. Ti substrates oxidized by H2O2 had high wettability because many Ti-OH groups were present on their surface, as characterized to XPS measurement. XRD results showed that H2O2 treatment could provide thin titania gels on the substrates whereas heating at the temperature above 200oC could provide thin titania layer. The platelet adhesion on the Ti substrates was evaluated by the number of platelets per unit area on the substrates derived from SEM photograph taken after contacted with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) for 30 min. It is concluded that Ti substrates treated with H2O2 for a few hours and subsequently heated above 300oC have good blood compatibility.
