Abstract
An automated wet-dry processing system, based on the concept of combinatorial chemistry, has been developed to make a search of useful materials by over 100 times more efficiently than the conventional. The present combinatorial robot system has the following functions: measuring and mixing of starting materials, distributing reaction mixtures to a reaction plate, heat-treating of these reactants and evaluating of the products by an X-ray diffractometer. Starting materials used are liquids such as slurries or solutions, which are easier than solids for measuring and mixing. These operations were automatically done. In this study, we had already finished synthesis and evaluation of pseudo-ternary XxOy-ZnO-Fe2O3 (X: Ni, Co, Mn etc.) system excepted for magnetic or dielectric materials by various temperature and composition conditions in short time, and the products were analyzed by the combinatorial powder X-ray diffractometer equipped with a position sensitive proportional counter as detector.
