Abstract
Paper sludge (PS) discharged from Fuji area, Shizuoka prefecture reaches in about 1,000,000 tons/year.Generally, PS mainly consists of organic material (cellulose) and inorganic material (calcite, talc and kaolinite), which are originally present in paper. We synthesized zeolite bearing porous material (ZPM) using PS and diluted water glass solution. The mixture was heated at 105°C for 2 hours in order to make the specific shape, and then heated at 800°C for 5 hours in order to make meso pore by carbonization of cellulose and to make macro pore by decarboxylation of calcite. Because this porous material contained metakaolinite, zeolite was synthesized by the alkali treatment in pore of this porous material. We studied the heating and reaction conditions such as reaction time, solid/liquid ratio, and NaOH concentration, and then found optimal synthetic conditions. And chemical and mineralogical characteristics of the ZPM were then investigated.
