Abstract
A manufacturing process of a composite honeycomb structure was developed for honeycomb type solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). The composite honeycomb structure comprising zirconia and lanthanum chromite was successfully manufactured by a new co-extruding process and a co-firing process. Co-extruding experiments were carried out using equipment with a novel die device aiming at forming precisely. Co-firing experiments were carried out through control of grain size of the raw powder aiming at matching sintering behaviors of the constituent materials. The honeycomb type SOFCs were fabricated by applying an anode and a cathode to the composite honeycomb structure and evaluated on a power generating condition at 1000°C. The results showed that use of the composite honeycomb structure would improve the power-generating density per unit volume of the present SOFCs, and so that a compact power-generating device can be readily produced.
