Abstract
Very recently Ceracomp Co., Ltd. demonstrated that PMN-PT single crystals bigger than 1.5x1.5 inches were successfully grown by the solid-state single crystal growth (SSCG) process. In the SSCG process a BaTiO3 single crystal seed was bonded to a polycrystalline ceramics and then heat-treated. The result shows that the simple SSCG process will become a primary single crystal growth method of PMN-PT and thus provide a break-through in the fabrication of various ceramic single crystals, because of its advantages such as cost-effectiveness and suitability for mass production, etc. In this presentation we will also present some recent results about single crystal growth of new high Tc piezoelectrics as well as PMN-PT. The measured piezoelectric properties of PMN-PT crystals were about k33 ° 0.9 and d33 ° 2000 pC/N, and thus quite similar to those of PMN-PT single crystals grown by the Bridgman method.
