Abstract
In order to fabricate cordierite/carbon composite ceramic, MgO, Al2O3, SiO2 and SiC powders were used as the raw materials, in addition, fluorine containing glass powder was used as the sintering agent. These starting materials were mixed, compacted and firing in sealed platinum container at 1150oC-1250oC. The specimen was relatively densified at 1200oC. Color of the specimen suggested the formation of carbon and non-uniform of its formation because near the surface of the specimen was black and inside was the dark grey. In the XRD pattern of the specimen, large peaks of silicon carbide and very large peaks of cordierite appeared but carbon could not be confirmed. The formation of the carbon will be confirmed by the measurement of electrical conductivity.
