Abstract
A new layer structured titanate CsxTi2-xCrxO4 (x = 0.70) with a lepidocrocite-related structure has been prepared by a solid state reaction using Cs2CO3, anatase type TiO2 and Cr2O3 under a stream of argon gas at 800 °C. Ion exchange reactions have been studied in aqueous solutions. The single phases of hydrogen, lithium and sodium ion exchange products were obtained from the titanate. They contain interlayer water and the host layer was retained on the reactions. Cesium ion in the interlayer space was ion exchanged up to 91%. The ion exchange products were characterized by chemical analysis, TG-DTA, XRD and UV-VIS-NIR.
