Abstract
Nitrogen doped SrTiO3 powders were prepared by mechanchemical reaction by using two kinds of doping sources, hexamethylenetetramine (HMT) and urea, and grinding 20 wt.% of these two powders individually with SrTiO3 by high energy ball mill. The photocatalysis of nitrogen doped SrTiO3 powders in both visible light (>400nm) and near ultraviolet light regions (>290nm) have been studied. It showed that the photocatalytic activity for nitrogen monoxide decomposition of SrTiO3 could be improved greatly by nitrogen doping. Under the irradiation of wavelength larger than 510nm and 400nm, the photocatalytic activities of nitrogen doped SrTiO3 made by 20wt%HMT-SrTiO3 was about 2.5 and 3.5 times larger than those of pure SrTiO3, and 54.5% and 39.3% higher than those of titania powder (Degussa P-25). We found that new absorption gap was formed in the visible light region after nitrogen doping which was the reason for the high visible light photocatalytic activity of this substance.
